Chuseok and Harvest Moon Festival Term 3

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Spring is here at last and we hope you have managed to get through winter without catching some of the nasty flu bugs.

For the next 2 weeks the ELIP groups will be participating in a learning theme based around Chuseok (Korean), Moon Festival (Chinese). The children from these cultures will share experiences and knowledge and will be regarded as the ‘experts’ in this area. Students from other cultures will share one of their special celebrations.

On Thursday 23rd September the ELIP department are having our own Chuseok/Moon Festival celebrations at school. We would like the children to share their experiences with us by bringing hanbok to wear at school if possible and some traditional Korean/Chinese food to share. Each ELIP child will write an invitation to a classmate from a different culture inviting them to the ELIP rooms to learn more about this special festival. If you have any Chuseok games/pictures/posters/recipes your child could bring it would add to the experience.

If you would like to come along to school to celebrate this occasion with your child on Thursday 23rd September, you are most welcome. We look forward to seeing you in the MAC (music and arts center). Groups will be allocated Block 2 (10.50am-12.15pm) or Block 3 (1.20pm-2.50pm). The Korean dance group will perform their dances as a finale. Your child will advise you which Block to attend closer to the time. If you are not sure where to go, just go to the office and a student will bring you down.

Other events coming up for our ELIP students are the annual Christmas party at Ms Braithwaite’s farm in Whenuapai (parents and caregivers most welcome) in late November and our cultural assembly in December. We will give you more details about these events closer to the time.
